第三届香港中文大学(深圳)英语口译大赛决赛圆满结束

      由人文社科学院主办的第三届香港中文大学（深圳）英语口译大赛决赛于2018年3月21日在道远楼理事会会议室举行。人文社科学院助理院长龚文高博士致开幕词，隋云教授，张瓅文博士和周波老师担任评委。经过3月12日的筛选赛，共有十三名选手入围决赛，分别是肖瑶、曹朋、赵佳莹、周海林（本科生）、李治、黄嘉俊（本科生）、李嘉铭、陈树豪、孙坚、牛英男、张文康、方淑妍和张雨姝（本科生）。他们将角逐第七届全国口译大赛广东赛区的五个参赛名额。

      此次比赛形式为英汉和汉英交替传译，题材分别为“塑料的危害”与“区块链和量子计算机的区别”。两段音频无论从语速还是专业性上都很有挑战性，所以此次比赛不仅考察选手们的语言能力，同时还检测其抗压能力以及临场应变能力。在近两个小时的比赛过程中，十三位选手都十分的沉着冷静，尤其是三位本科生同学的表现让老师们倍感欣慰，得到了张瓅文博士的高度赞扬。同时，隋云教授就语言方面对所有选手提出了建议。隋教授再次强调了在口译过程中，“听”的重要性，不要因为忙着记笔记而耽误了听，从而造成误译。

     经过评委老师们的共同评选，李嘉铭同学以优异的表现荣获一等奖；李治和张文康同学荣获二等奖；赵佳莹和牛英男同学荣获三等奖。最后，大赛在充满掌声的颁奖仪式中圆满结束。   

The Final Round of The 3rd English Interpreting Competition of CUHK-Shenzhen organized by School of Humanities and Social Science, successfully concluded on 21st March, 2018.

Dr. Gong Wengao, Assistant Dean of School of Humanities and Social Science, delivered the opening speech, while Prof. Sui Yun, Dr. Chang Liwen and Mr. Zhou Bo were the judges. After the preliminary contest held on 12th March, thirteen students were qualified for the final to battle for the five entry tickets to the East China Final of the 7th National Interpreting Competition to be held in Guangzhou shortly. They were Xiao Yao, Cao Peng, Zhao Jiaying, Zhou Hailin (undergraduate student), Li Zhi, Huang Jiajun (undergraduate student), Li Jiaming, Chen Shuhao, Sun Jian, Niu Yingnan and Zhang Wenkang, Fang Shuyan and Zhang Yushu (undergraduate student).

The competition was in the form of consecutive interpreting with the theme of “Hazard of Plastics” （English to Chinese) and "The Differences Between the Block Chain and Quantum Computers" (Chinese to English). Given the speed and professionalism of the source texts, the two audio segments were very challenging, reflecting that this competition was designed to examine not only the language proficiency of the contestants, but also their ability to cope with pressure.

After nearly two-hour competition, all thirteen competitors delivered satisfactory performance with perfect composure. In particular, the performance of the three undergraduate students have gained applause from both judges and audiences and won high remarks from Dr. Chang Liwen. Meanwhile, Prof. Sui also offered suggestions for all students in terms of the language proficiency. Prof. Sui emphasized on the importance of “listening” in the process of interpreting, which should not be influenced by note-taking.

Based on the grades given by three judges, Li Jiaming outshone other competitors and won the first prize. Li Zhi and Zhang Wenkang won the second. Zhao Jiaying and Niu Yingnan won the third prizes. The competition ended with a full success!
